Antenna Design for the Arctic Weather Satellite Microwave Sounder

چکیده

The Arctic Weather Satellite (AWS) is a prototype mission for an operational constellation of microwave sounders, complimenting existing meteorological sounders. AWS microsatellite with single cross-track scanning radiometer operating in the 54, 89, 183 and 325 GHz bands. Due to small platform size, core design focus radiometer’s quasi-optics less complexity more compact setup than comparable spaceborne To achieve this, instrument utilises splitblock feedarray which directly illuminates off-axis parabolic reflector. A secondary reflector used couple into wedge-shaped load calibration combination cold sky measurements. main challenge performance that only one four horns can be located Consequently, scan angle dependent spillover variations beam asymmetries occur. This paper details simulation optimisation efforts minimise aforementioned effects.

Correcting diurnal cycle aliasing in satellite microwave humidity sounder measurements

[1] Microwave humidity measurements from polar orbiting satellites are affected by diurnal sampling biases which are caused by changes in the local observation time of the satellites. The long-term data records available from these satellites thus have spurious trends, which must be corrected. Diurnal cycles of the microwave measurements have been constructed by combining data over the period 2...

Terahertz local oscillator for the Microwave Limb Sounder on the Aura satellite.

The Microwave Limb Sounder on the Aura satellite has a radiometer at 2.5 THz to perform global mapping of OH in the atmosphere. The OH radiometer utilizes two Schottky-diode mixers pumped by an optically pumped THz gas laser local oscillator. The laser was first turned on in space on July 22, 2004, and has performed without issue for more than 30 months. The specifications, design, and modeling...

Development of a Satellite Communication Emulator for the Hyperspectral Microwave Atmosphere Sounder (HYMAS)

Major weather facilities around the world recognize microwave atmospheric sounding is the key to developing technology for forthcoming weather and climate missions. The mission for Hyperspectral Microwave Atmospheric Sounder (HyMAS) Emulator is to produce a model for demonstrating the hyperspectral techniques that retrieve data near 118 and 183 GHz through a 52 channel Intermediate Frequency pr...

Satellite design parameters for detecting coherence in the microwave sky

Recently it has been realized that observations of fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) can reveal very interesting information about the degree of coherence exhibited by the perturbations at early times. This fact should allow sufficiently detailed observations to clearly differentiate among several competing models of structure formation. We study the mission parameters requi...
